The Global Change leaders program is a 5 weeks’ module education program offered by Global Goodwill Ambassadors Foundation for youth Leadership. This program enables youth from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities in order to contribute to innovation and change in their humanitarian organizations and their communities.

Introduction:

This program integrated key management concepts and best practices to develop strategic thinking and leadership skills as well as an integrated view of real-world experiences while on GGA’s Core thematic area which is Education.

It offers a transformational experiential learning education where learning occurs through various cycles of actions and reflections to prepare the youth to assume responsibilities at the highest level as they lead their humanitarian organizations to achieve a sustainable competitive edge.

This program will help to identify emerging leaders, increase self- awareness, build relational skills, and focus on evidence-based leadership skills to prepare for the shift from managing self to managing others in the future. Through shared learning with other emerging youth leaders from around the world, participants are exposed to a range of experiences and the beginning of a potentially lifelong network of support.

It is our hope the youths who will participate in the program will acquire a greater understanding of themselves and their abilities as well as the skills and attributes of leaders.

 

Objective:

To bring youths from developing countries to empower and strengthen their leadership capacities in order to contribute to innovation and change in their humanitarian organizations and communities.

 

Target Audience:

  • 100 Youths from developing countries.

  • Between 23 years-30 years old.

 

Type of training:

The training will be conducted online using virtual  Zoom.

Duration:

It’s a 5 module Course work. It will be conducted within 5 weeks and comprises of 2 classes per week. It’s an intensive course where a collaborative relationship is fostered among facilitators and participants to draw out lessons and insights from their rich and diverse experiences.

Who can Apply for the GGA Global Change Leaders Program? Eligibility:

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in social development or humanitarian sectors such as livelihoods, access to education and health care, engagement of youths, and environment.

  • Have a great drive and passion for their humanitarian work, demonstrated through their outstanding contributions in their organizations and communities.

  • Have a strong oral and written English Language competence.

Program Schedule

For 2020, GGA Youth Global Change leaders program consists of two main components:

From August 10, 2020 is a 5 week online intensive course conducted by Global Goodwill Ambassadors Foundation where the collaborative relationship is fostered among facilitators and participants to draw out lessons and insights from their rich and diverse experiences.

This consists of:

  1. A foundation module, in which participants focus on leadership theories and essential competencies. Practical understandings of these concepts and their application for youth leaders within their contexts, strengthening capacities for social innovations, partnership building in the humanitarian environment, and enhancing abilities to realize a citizen-driven humanitarian asset-based development.

     2. A final module, in which participants articulate an action plan for how they will use their new learning to provide leadership in their            organizations and communities and continue to work towards empowering other youths moving forward.

August 10th - September, 31st 2020 Participants will benefit from one-on-one mentoring from experienced leaders upon their completion of the online education program to allow on the application of learning into practice. Mentors and mentees will be matched during the online program based on specific needs and geographical locations. Participants will also join a global alumnae network of youth leaders.

The 5-week module Courses in developing the leadership in youth includes:

  • Foundation Module 1: Developing Leadership Skills for Change

  • Module 2: Shaping the future

  • Module 3: Building a community and Collaboration

  • Module 4: Managing an organization, program or project

  • Module 5: Securing Accountability, the impact of your actions, and taking responsibilities.
     

The program has shown that youths that participate in the programs will be:
 

  • Youths who are motivated, ready, and enthusiastic to initiate leadership initiatives in their communities.

  • Youths who are ready and able to cascade the learning from the course to others.

  • Youths who have increased possibilities of success in attainment and achievement.

  • Youths who could act as ambassadors and champions for the GGA Youth Global Change Leaders.

  • Youths who could become lead learners in, and organizers of, extending and enriching activities.

Program and module overview:

Foundation Module 1: Developing Leadership Skills for Change

Youths learn to:

  • Understand more about oneself in terms of being a leader.

  • Develop and reflect on one’s understanding of one’s emotional health and emotional responses in various situations.

  • Improve time organization’s as a leadership skill.

  • Develop the idea of roles and responsibilities.

  • Develop further the idea of teamwork.

  • Develop further listening and communication skills.

  • Use problem-solving to investigate more deeply situations that may occur that require leadership skills to be exhibited.

  • Reflect on one’s leadership skills.

Module 2: Shaping the future

Youths learn to:

  • Nurture a strong and positive learning culture and develop enthusiasm and understanding of the learning process.

  • Model and develop effective communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.

  • Develop vision and goals.

  • Develop an understanding of future thinking.

  • Develop an ability to manage change.

  • Develop an ability to influence others through reasoned argument and debate

Module 3: Building a community and Collaboration

Youths learn to:

  • Nurture a strong and positive understanding of distributed leadership, particularly in the context of working within diverse groups.

  • Develop an understanding of how to engage with diverse groups of people and how to develop trust and effective working relationships.

  • Develop an understanding of different community contexts that they may be involved with.

  • Identify the role that the youth leaders can give in their local community, and influencing the people to contribute to their community and in their country at large.

Module 4: Managing an organization, program or project

Youths learn to:

  • Nurture a strong and positive understanding of managing a project or program and the importance of planning and reviewing.

  • Develop an understanding of the key differences between managing and leading.

  • Develop an understanding of how to identify clear and definable aims and objectives, the steps required to achieve them, and how to effectively monitor progress and evaluate the end result.

  • Develop an understanding of equal opportunities and discrimination issues and how to equally engage and motivate others to contribute.

  • Identify the role that youths can take in leading a project or program, both setting up new ones and maintaining existing ones.

Module 5: Securing Accountability, the impact of your actions, and taking responsibilities.

Youths learn to:

  • Nurture a strong and positive understanding of accountability as a leader and of how to develop a sense of collective responsibility within the groups that they work with, taking into account and legal, financial or other relevant rules.

  • Develop an understanding of how different people are involved in projects or organization’s and how to clarify who is responsible for what.

  • Develop a commitment to monitoring and reviewing their own roles.

Qualifications of a Trainer/Mentor

  • Possess adequate knowledge in designing and delivering successful leadership training program.

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership and training experience.

  • Be passionate about learning and training by keeping abreast of the latest insights in leadership training.

  • Should possess a high level of professionalism and understand that people learn at different speeds and in different ways.

  • Should aim at offering rich effective training sessions that MUST include practice segments to allow youths participation.

  • Possess excellent oral and written English Language Competence.

  • The trainer or mentor position should be on a voluntary basis.

  • The trainer must provide assignments
     

Role and responsibility of a Trainer/mentor

  • Must create time to teach an effective leadership training program

  • Mentors are expected to participate in a weekly scheduled mentorship session with their respective mentees for at least an hour.

  • Mentors are at liberty to share opportunities, jobs and courses that mentees can leverage on growth.

The Application Process

The Youth Leaders are invited to apply to be GGA Youth Change Leaders through course catalog page the website at https://www.globalgoodwillambassadors.org/coursecatalog The first 80 applications meeting the course criteria will be accepted into the program.

  • Trainers or Mentors are invited to apply to teach during the leadership training programs through the website or any social media platform.

  • We would require 5 qualified trainers for the leadership program and 20 mentors to provide mentorship for the youth leaders.

  • Selected applicants are provided a sign-up link for registration of their details and also provided links to their virtual online classes.

  • After the leadership program, the mentees are assigned to mentors based on similar interest selection of both mentor and mentee on sign up.
